What's the Matter with Kansas?

You are probably wondering why I am writing to you about Kansas when running for Congress from California’s Central Valley.

Well there is an old saying you’ve probably heard, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” from philosopher George Santayana. So in Kansas, just a few years ago, they slashed taxes for their wealthiest residents using rosy economic assumptions and stating it would pay for itself (exactly what Washington Republicans are saying now). Their governor called his plan, “a real-life experiment.”

It failed miserably.

Before those cuts, Kansas was known for having great infrastructure and a solid public education system. Despite a strong national economy, once those cuts took effect Kansas became plagued with budget crisis after budget crisis, roads decayed, teachers were laid off, and Kansas economic growth suddenly lagged all their neighboring states. Their economy became so bad the Republican-dominated Kansas legislature finally overruled their governor’s veto and repealed the majority of his tax cut program.

Although it's disappointing this bill passed with Congressman Jeff Denham’s vote, it was heartening to see hundreds of you sign our petition to him. We made sure he received your message - and next November with your help we will send Denham a stronger one: You’re fired!

To make that happen we need you rise up.

There are many ways for you to help with our campaign - we would love for you to join us. Please sign up to volunteer with our campaign today.

Thank you for all that you do.
